Digital village construction is the strategic direction of rural revitalization and an essential part of building a digital China.

Commissioned by the Publicity Department of the Municipal Committee of Chaozhou, Shaoying He, Associate Dean of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning, led a team of teachers and students to carry out a series of digital exhibition and display (pilot) design work in the Town of Dachengsuo and Shifeng Village, Chaozhou City, Guangdong Province.

On July 21, the team held a report meeting in Shenglin Academy in Shifeng Village.

Wang Wensen, Standing Committee Member of the CPC Chaozhou Municipal Committee and Minister of Publicity Department, Zhong Zhaoming, Secretary of the CPC Committee of the School of Architecture and Urban Planing of GDUT, attended the meeting. It also brought together leaders of the publicity and cultural system of Chaozhou City, county, town and street.

During the presentation, project leader Shaoying He introduced the background, process and practical significance of the project, and presented the design results.

She explained that the team had explored a new working mode by integrating various resources during the process.

New media platforms such as WeChat, Weibo, TikTok, Kwai, were used in the project. It helped to rally the masses and guide them to participate in constructing a modern socialist country in a vigorous and popular way.

Digital technologies such as aerial photography, three-dimensional laser scanning, temperature and humidity recorders, infrared thermal imagers, laser level meters were also used to collect spatial information of the entire village and the historical buildings. This provides data support for subsequent conservation and reuse work.

The characteristics of the villages and the current situation of the historical buildings were also considered seriously during the project. The team developed a technical plan for excavating the historical and cultural characteristics of the villages, and a digital monitoring plan for the historical buildings and the environment. Customized applets were also designed for each village.

The digital platform not only contains a special promotional interface for the village but also includes interactive education modules and game modules. It integrates perception and experience, smart monitoring, resource clustering and integration and innovation, giving full play to the role of information technology in the construction of beautiful and sustainable rural areas.

To fully present the results of the work, the team also held several on-site roadshows in Shifeng Village on July 21.

After trying out the applets, the visiting villagers were pleased by the convenience of obtaining information and showed great interest in customized creative products designed by the team. They found it an amusing way of learning about and promoting the village, which brought them a whole new experience.

Digital village construction is a key process for transforming and promoting quality rural resources. The project is a cross-border attempt to integrate rural history, culture and physical space development into a digital platform. It gives full play to new elements such as networks, data, technology and knowledge, speeds up the digital and intellectual transformation of rural infrastructure, and provides information and basis for decision-making in a quick and convenient manner. It also provides channels for the general public to learn about rural history, culture and science resources, laying a solid foundation for the promotion of a new rural culture and the building of civilization in the new era.
