The national academic platform of Urban Regeneration Specialty Committee （URSC）was established in 2006. Many international and national conferences have been held for academic exchange, which helps URSC expand nationwide influence and visibility. On the basis of URSC, two provincial academic institutions of “Guangdong Urban Regeneration Engineering Technology Research Center” and“Guangdong Green Urban Planning and Design Engineering Technology Research Center”, and two municipal academic institutions of “Guangzhou Government - Guangdong University of Technology Guangdong University of Technology Urban Research Center” and “Guangzhou Research Base of Traditional Villages Conservation and utilization” were set up accordingly. In 2019, four research groups, namely, “Historical and Cultural Heritage Protection”、“Ecological Urban Planning and Construction”、“Urban and Rural Sustainable Development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area”and “Technological Innovation of Urban Construction”, were assembled to make possible contributions on urban planning.
